The Past and a Look into the Future

The first match of the History Bowl against the A Team went very well and all students performed quite admirably and I am proud of all participants on both 8th grade teams.  The History Bowl match went down to a "sudden death" round and the A Team was able to buzz in just a fraction quicker on the last question.  Students on both teams did an amazing job and we will have an opportunity later in the year to win back the trophy for the All Star Team.  The most important thing was students were very excited and animated about history, geography, religion and various other topics related to the History Bowl.  It was fun and we look forward to doing more things like this in the future.

Parents/Guardians, the winning question was name the four Native American technological/cultural groups who evolved in North Carolina in the last 12,000 years.  Good luck with that one.

The Future
The class will now switch gears and focus on learning the development of the North American region and more specifically looking at the creation of the thirteen colonies, which became the framework of the United States of America.  The role of Native Americans, Africans and Europeans in the mixing of these multiple cultures on the continent of North America will be examined in the next two weeks of class.  This next assessment will be in the form of a test and seeing if students understood certain objectives relating to the standard course of study will be the focus.  The first thing we need to do is learn what we know and do not know and this will help us chart a course for future learning.
